Who says opposites don’t attract? The new single from danish “Truth Lies in the Dust”, juxtaposes two diverse musical backgrounds to create a composition of sounds that are both sublime and manifold.
This odd-couple consists of, producer Lars ‘Ephex’ Hartmann, whose musical inspiration stems from the early LA Hip-Hop scene, and singer/songwriter Morten Blok whose musical focus lives within the rock genre. Mix these together and you have a musical palette that is as diverse as it is complex.
Lars and Morten met during a party in their hometowns of Copenhagen. At first a very pleasant party, turned ugly when an ejected guest came back with a fleet of friends to cause mayhem, throwing bricks through windows and the likes. The remaining partygoers quickly, and without harm, made their way home. Coincidently enough, Morten and Lars lived in the same area of Copenhagen and decided to walk together. During their journey, they realized how much they had in common, specifically their shared love for p-funk, acid rock, and strange exotica. Afterwards, they agreed to meet up and see what kind of music they could make together.
The first single, “Sacrifice,” plays on this contrast, mixing elements of Lou Reed with Dr. Dre, to get a dense simplicity that makes you want more.
